Discipleship isn't a program — it's our purpose. Every believer is on a journey of spiritual growth, and our goal is to walk with each person right where they are and help them take the next step.

Discipleship Is Our Purpose
At First Baptist Church of Grayson, we take seriously the call of Ephesians 4:11–13, where God gifts leaders to equip the saints for the work of ministry so that the body of Christ is built up until we all reach maturity in Him. We also take seriously the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19–20, where Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations.
Disciple making begins at conversion, but it doesn't end there. It continues for the entire life of the believer. Every believer is somewhere on a journey of spiritual growth, and our goal is to walk with each person right where they are and help them take the next step.
Spiritual Growth
The Five Stages of Spiritual Growth
Scripture describes spiritual growth in stages, much like natural growth in a family. First John 2:12–14 speaks of spiritual children, young men, and fathers, each marked by a different level of maturity and responsibility. At FBCG, we recognize five stages on this journey.
Spiritually Dead
A person who has not yet trusted Christ.
Spiritual Infant
A new believer, full of excitement but still needing to be fed and cared for.
Spiritual Child
A growing believer learning to feed themselves spiritually, but who can still be self-focused and easily discouraged.
Spiritual Young Adult
A maturing believer who is stable in their faith and beginning to invest in others.
Spiritual Parent
A mature believer whose focus is fully turned toward reproducing disciples in others.
Our Path
Share, Connect, Minister, Disciple
We walk people through these stages using four simple, intentional steps.
Share
We share the gospel clearly and boldly with those who don't yet know Christ, praying for spiritually dead people to become spiritually alive.
Connect
We connect new believers into a small group and into caring relationships, so spiritual infants are never left to grow alone.
Minister
We help growing believers discover their gifts and put them to use, moving spiritual children toward serving others and looking outward.
Disciple
We equip mature believers to invest one on one in someone else, so spiritual young adults and spiritual parents are always raising up the next generation of disciples.
